To be clear, Siren was never a real band -- but they could have been. Siren was inspired by electronic music, which I grew enamored of in college. There were lots of acts fronted by sexy female vocalists and a dude in the background. Acts like Everything But the Girl, Moloko, The Ruruals, Lamb, Mono, and Goldfrapp come to mind.
I remember listening to their albums late at night, pouring over the CD sleeves, curious what it was like behind-the-scenes. I wondered if it was ever more than just a working relationship? Would it be unlikely that a man and woman working so close together might partner in other ways? And how would that affect the music?
So Siren was born of these musings -- an imaginary band (complete with an imaginary record label: Softcore) inspired by those groups above and a story about music, art, breaking-up, selling-out and maybe getting the band back together again. It’s my love-letter to that era and genre of music. Enjoy!
